Geocaching with the AT&T Tilt

After successfully paperless caching with my Magellan CrossoverGPS and iPaq PocketPC for the last year, I have decided I wanted to carry less with me when I head out to do some geocaching. A few months ago, I picked up the AT&T Tilt and have been using it daily ever since to organize my life. Not only does it have all the functions of a normal Windows Mobile device, but it also has a built in GPS. What better way to go out caching than having your cell phone, PocketPC, camera, and GPS all in one device!

Now, I know there are a lot of people who do not like all-in-one type devices. If you are one of those people, then this is not the device for you. However, if you have (or are thinking about buying) the AT&T Tilt and would like to learn how to use it for geocaching and other GPS functions, then read on!

First Night Cache

After some caching during the day, Amanda and I decided to try our very first night cache this evening. There just so happens to be a night cache down the street from our house at Duck Pond Park.

In order to find the cache, you needed a flashlight when you arrived at the coordinates. Then you would have to shine the flashlight around and find the eyes that would reflect back to you. Once you would walk to that area, you would have to find the next set of eyes…and so on…until you find the cache.

It was a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to doing more of this type of cache in the future 🙂

Some geocaching.

Amanda and I finally got out and did a little geocaching today for the first time since we’ve moved here to Colorado. We went across the river from our house to the Watson Island part of the Colorado River trail since it was close and we wanted to check it out.

I also used my AT&T Tilt as my main GPS today for caching, and it worked very well. Sure beats carrying around a separate cell phone, GPS and PocketPC.

Here’s a few pictures from the day.

New Phone & GPS (AT&T Tilt)

Ended up picking up a new phone since I got such a great deal on it. Grabbed the new AT&T Tilt. It’s a little bigger that I am used to carrying around, but I think the features of this phone will be worth it.

With the built in GPS and Windows Mobile 6 operating system, I’m hoping it will make paperless geocaching a little easier for me, since I won’t have to carry two devices when I go out. It will also make it easier to do some quick caching in my free time.

I’ll definitely let you know how well it works for me for geocaching once I have a chance to try it out 🙂
