SPOT Me

If you would like to track me on my adventures, click on the link below to see where I am using SPOTcasting on my SPOT Messenger.

Just be warned, if there is nothing much on the map, it’s most likely because I am not out exploring right now. Checking on the weekends or when I post up that I will be on a long trip would be the best times to follow my SPOTcast.

What a cool idea, you are a thinking guy!

I got an error when trying to pull up your SPOT. Perhaps it quit working?

It’s working, there’s just no current waypoints for it to display.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate your experience with your spot device? I am thinking about getting one for two reasons 1) in case of an emergency far far from home, and 2) to use the public tracking feature when I am out of cell coverage. Thx.

I am currently using my original SPOT 1 device (the original) and I would rate my experience with it as a 9 or 10. It has given me no troubles and does what it is supposed to do.

I also had the SPOT 2 device for about a year and would have to rate that one a 3 or 4. I loved the size, weight and extra buttons, but I had a couple of issues with it. It used 3 AAA Lithium batteries which proved difficult to find around here on occasion…but the main issue I had with it is the device stopped working completely on my 2 times. The first time it was still under warranty and SPOT replaced it for me, but once the second device did the same thing I knew I couldn’t trust my life with it in the backcountry. I did not abuse or mistreat these devices….the device would still turn on and show me indicator lights, but it would not send messages anymore.

I have been leery of the new SPOT Connect and have not tried it. I’m planning on sticking with my original SPOT for a while since it has never let me down.

    Hope that info helps.
