Grizzly Creek to South Canyon
Today I was invited by a friend at work to raft the Colorado River with him from Grizzly Creek to South Canyon near Glenwood Springs. Since Amanda and I had nothing planned for today, we decided to go with. Another guy I work with also had his boat with and a few passengers, too. While one the river, we even ran into two other boats belonging to other co-workers as well. It was like being at work today
We both had a great time and managed to get thoroughly soaked
The Colorado was flowing pretty fast, so this section of river only took us a few hours to travel, even with a stop for lunch at Two Rivers Park in Glenwood Springs.
Here’s some photos from our day on the river.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison
Amanda and I headed down to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park for a day trip. This trip we only checked out the South Rim and headed down to the East Portal. We are planning on heading to the North Rim in the future sometime. Just some photos from the day…

NRS Big Water Guide PFD
Since it looks like Amanda and I are heading out on Sunday to raft the Colorado River from Grizzly to New Castle, I decided to get myself my own Personal Flotation Device (Life Jacket). I figured as I start getting on the rivers more often around here, that getting a jacket that fits me comfortably would be a good idea.
Anyways, on my lunch break I headed over to Whitewater West Rafts & Supplies and tried on a bunch of jackets. I ended up getting the NRS Big Water Guide in the slate color. This jacket had a longer torso section than the others and it also had 22 lbs. of flotation. The zippered pockets and fleece lined pockets are also nice features.
I think this PFD will work out well for me.

Upgrade & iPhone
Just an update on my website here. I just upgraded to Wordpress 2.8, which is the latest version.
My main reason for upgrading is so that I can use the Wordpress iPhone app to make updates from the field.
…as a matter of fact, I made this post from my iPhone
Escalante Canyon
Escalante Canyon is a nice easy drive that takes off from US 50 just north of Delta, CO. The scope of this trail writeup starts at the highway and ends at Escalante Forks, where there is a Y-intersection to the Love Mesa and Palmer Gulch trails.
The entire length of this section of road is maintained and easily traveled by any vehicle. From the highway the road quickly drops down and crosses the Gunnison River. After crossing the bridge, the road crosses private property for a few miles before finally reaching public lands. There are a number of marked campsites along this section of the road.
While this trail offers no obstacles, the scenery in the canyon is great and there are a few old historical houses to check out. The first one is the Walker Cabin which was built in 1911 by Harry Walker. A little further up the road you will reach the cabin built by Captain Henry A. Smith against a large rock slab. Take your time to explore these structures.
Please feel free to leave your comments and post your pictures from Escalante Canyon below.
