GC2DA96

That’s the code for our first hidden geocache named ‘Delicate View’. It was just approved this evening and is now ready to be found. Check it out here:

As I mentioned in the previous post, one of my goals for this year was to hide a geocache. I’ve been slowing finding them for the last couple of years but had never hid one. I guess my main reason for not hiding one before, is because I wanted to put one in a great location. This one is located on Winter Camp Ridge which is just north of Arches National Park. The view from the end of the road is outstanding. Now we are just curious how long it will be until someone heads out that way to find it…

Here’s a few photos from yesterday while we were out hiding it.

View from the cache. Yep, you can see the top of Delicate Arch from here.

Great views over the sandstone bowl/canyon

100th Geocache Found

One of my many goals this year was to reach my 100th geocache. So while we were out yesterday evening hiding our first geocache (more info on that later; it was a different goal of mine for this year), Amanda and I searched for our 100th together…and succeeded. Here’s a few photos from our evening.

We also found our 101st cache near the Parco Mines.

Random Photos from the Last Two Weeks

Amanda’s mom and sister spent the last two weeks with us here in Grand Junction. While they were here we spent some time showing them around not only here, but also in Moab, Silverton and Ouray….to name a few places. Here’s some random photos I took while we were out and about….

Kamp-Rite Oversize TentCot

I’ve been thinking about picking up a new tent for myself when I am camping alone without Amanda and was looking for something that is very quick and easy to setup. After doing some research I have decided to give the Kamp-Rite Oversize TentCot a try. It meets all the criteria that I was looking for. It can be setup in just a minute or two and it will keep me up off the ground and more comfortable. The oversize model is plenty long for someone my height (6′5″) and the domed roof allows me to sit up inside.

I’m looking forward to trying it out on my Colorado Adventure in just a few weeks :)

Home again.

Just made it home from my Hole-in-the-Rock trip. It was a great 5 days camping in Southern Utah and the weather was just about perfect. Now I have a lot of catch up with, so once I start going through my photos from the trip, expect a bunch of new posts here :)

Gone for a few…

I’m heading to Southern Utah bright and early tomorrow morning for a few days. Going to finally be checking out the Hole-in-the-Rock Trail. Since I won’t be back for a few days, there won’t be any 30-365 Project photos posted until I get back, but don’t worry, I’ll still be taking photos everyday so I can post them when I get home :) My SPOT will be on, if you care to follow along.

If I have signal (should be in sight of Navajo Mountain much of the time), I may try posting some photos from my iPhone along the way as well. Full trip report with plenty of pictures when I return!

Smith Parallel Max Sunglasses

I’ve never really bought a nice pair of sunglasses ever before, and I have thought about doing so for a while. Today I ended up spending all of my REI dividend on a nice pair of Smith Optics Parallel Max sunglasses. After my 20% off coupon and my dividend, they only cost me a few dollars :)

I like the fact that Smith backs all of their products with a lifetime warranty. These polarized sunglasses should server me well when out in the sun of Western Colorado and Southern Utah.

Happy First Birthday Mingo!

Today is Mingo’s first birthday! It amazing to think we have had him in our household for almost a year now. Obviously our original nickname ‘Domino’ didn’t stick and he has been known as Mingo for quite some time. Here’s a few photos from the day we brought him home when he was about 7 weeks old.

…and here we have a few of him that were taken today at 1 year of age. He’s grown up quite a bit!

Western Colorado Botanical Gardens

We were originally planning on heading to Arches National Park today so we could hike to Delicate Arch. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate with us, so we ended up staying home. After having some breakfast, Amanda remembered that it was the first Sunday of the month, and that the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens offers free admission today. It was a great opportunity to play with my new lens. Here’s some of the photos I took on our trip there.

Canon EFS 55-250mm Lens

I finally filled a gap in my lens lineup today with the arrival of my new Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. Up until today, the furthest reach I had was with the 18-55mm lens that came with my camera. Now I finally have a telephoto lens! I ended up going with this one because it compliments my 18-55mm well and it’s priced pretty well, too :)
