It’s been a while since I bought a book (I’ve actually been using the library lately), but when I found out this book by Beth and Bill Sagstetter just became available, I needed to get a copy to check it out. I have their other book ‘The Mining Camps Speak’ and enjoyed it a great deal, and figure this one will be just as good.
I received the book yesterday from Adler Publishing and flipped through it a little, and so far it looks like I won’t be disappointed. Once I finish ‘Cowboys and Caved Dwellers’ by Fred M. Blackburn (checked out from the library), I’ll dive into this one

I’ve bought a couple of books since right before my Southern Utah Wanderings in October until now, that I haven’t posted up about yet, so I’ll take care of them all in this one post…
Before I left on my trip, I picked up two Kelsey guide books that I didn’t already have to bring along with me in case they would come in handy while I was in Southern Utah….gotta be prepared
Boater’s Guide to Lake Powell by Michael Kelsey
Hiking and Exploring the Paria River by Michael Kelsey
While I was in Escalante, I picked up a local book called “Advised them to Call the Place Escalante” by Jerry C. Roundy
When I arrived back home to Grand Junction, I stumbled across this book…
Grand Junction Trails and Camping Guide by Nattana Johnson
After I bought my new pair of snowshoes I found Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing Ouray County by Jorg Angehrn on sale locally and picked it up to hopefully use this winter.
Finally, last month, I stopped at my favorite book store, Back of Beyond Books, while I was in Moab and got yet another book in the Canyon Country series.
Dinosaur Tracks and Trackers by F.A. Barnes

When I ordered my new wide angle lens last week, I also go two books on photography that I have not been able to put down since I got them. These two books contain a lot of great info that will be very helpful to me. I highly recommend them!
Understanding Photography Field Guide by Bryan Peterson
Photographing the Southwest: Volume 1 – Southern Utah
Hopefully I can greatly improve my photography skills over the coming year

When I got my new wide angle lens the other day, it also came with another book I also got from Amazon. I picked up the new Kelsey book with information on hiking in the Henry Mountains and Robber’s Roost that came out over the summer. There’s also a section on the life and legend of Butch Cassidy included.

While we were at the Colorado National Monument today, I just couldn’t help myself and picked up two more books from the visitor center
First I got Roadside Guide to Indian Ruins & Rock Art of the Southwest by Gordon and Cathie Sullivan.
Second was It Happened in Colorado by James Crutchfield

If you’ve read my blog here for any amount of time, you might have noticed that Comb Ridge is a favorite place that Amanda and I like to explore. We usually make a trip there in the spring and late fall at the least.
When I came across this book on Amazon, I just had to pick it up. I skimmed through it a little today, and there looks to be a lot of good information in it. I can’t wait to read it
Comb Ridge and Its People: The Ethnohistory of a Rock by Robert McPherson

While hiking at the Colorado National Monument yesterday I decided to stop off at the visitor center and pickup another book. There was an article based on this book in the Grand Junction Free Press last week that interested me, so I figured I’d get the full book: John Otto: Trials and Trails by Alan J. Kania.

This is the only book I picked up on this entire trip, and I got it from the Great Sand Dunes National park visitor center store. It should be an interesting read for me when I find the time
A few weeks back I found an inscription left by Antione Robidoux in the Book Cliffs:

It’s been a while since I have added a new book to my library. So after having a funnel cake in Silverton this afternoon, I stopped in one of the shops and picked up Silver & Sawdust: Life in the San Juans by Ken Reyher.
Now I have something new to read again
