About

It all started with an XJ…

I started this website shortly after I purchased my first Jeep back in 2002 as a place to display modifications and pictures of that Jeep. Over the years I have added a bunch of photo galleries, tech articles and videos. However, it was pretty static and not updated very often. So I decided to create this new website to make it easier to update more often and organize my photo galleries better.

This site has also evolved past just a place for me to post tech articles and pictures from my wheeling trips. I intend to post some real-time updates from my longer wheeling trips, some of the non-wheeling related pictures that I enjoy taking, and even Land Use news. So have a look around, and enjoy!

I stumbled across your website a few months ago and have really enjoyed reading about your explorations. I would love to get away as often as you do. Thanks for allowing me to explore vicariously.

Excellent website. Very useful to me in planning some trail runs: Clear Lake, Porphyry Basin and others.

Thanks Ross! Glad my site has been helpful to you :)

I found your site from NAXJA and just wanted to say you have a great site and awesome pictures. Your site will be very helpful when I plan my trip with the family. I don’t think I will take my 200,000 mile XJ but we will take my wife’s Jk Unlimited. I have been to Colorado for work before and cant wait to take the family out to see it.

Sweet blog man. I dig what you’re doing. I’m in Grand Junction as well, and a member of JK Forum. Hopefully I’ll see you around. Keep up the good work and take care.

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy it.

What a great gps track collection. Do you happen to do Dual Sport motorcycling also? Are most of your routes possible interesting DS m/c routes as well? Any that you would recommend for “skilled” m/c off-roaders?

  • IntrepidXJ Says:

I do not do any Dual Sport motorcycling, all of the tracks on my website were driven with a Jeep. I know I have seen ATV’s and motorcycles on a lot of these trails, so they would probably make interesting DS routes as well. Can’t really help you on choosing routes for ’skilled’ m/c’s though.

    Hi Randy

I think I emailed you about this same time last year to let you know I was going to be in Moab. Well I’m at it again. Some friends and I have two Rubi’s reserved for entire Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

I just purchased my first GPS and will try to download and use my first GPX files as soon as I’m done typing this. I wanted your recomendations on trails near Moab for a group of six people in two Rubi’s. I’m the only one with wheeling experience so the second rig will be piloted by a person with the equivalent wheeling knowledge to the Orange trail at the Badlands.

Last year we ran Hell’s Revenge and Fins and things. Other recomendations? Or longer 10+ mile scenic SUV required type of drives? I wouldn’t mind running Hells Revenge again, and trying Porcupine Rim. What’s your opinion on Porcupine Rim for us Moab newbs? I’ve still got my map and looking at the “single track” potion it makes me think that is all on a cliff side.

Thanks for any help. If you have interest in meeting up with us and doing any tour guide work I’m sure I can get the group to reimburse you for your time, gas, and food.

Porcupine Rim is not too difficult….there are a few ledges you will have to get up or down, but nothing a stock Jeep couldn’t handle. The one thing about Porcupine Rim that I will tell you, it’s that it’s a long and bumpy ride. One of the bumpiest trails I have driven. By the time we were finally done with it, I was glad to be off it. You will get some nice views over Castle Valley from the trail, though.

One of my favorite trails north of Moab that is very scenic and offers a few challenges along the way is the 3D trail. I would recommend that one for your group. You will get to scheck out some great scenery around Hidden Canyon, plus you can stop and check out Tusher Tunnel along the way. If you get done with the trail quicker than expected you can make a short side trip to the Secret Spire or Dellenbaugh Tunnel before heading back, as they are not far away.

    Here’s my info on 3D: http://www.myxj.net/blog/1109

Hope that helps….if you have any other questions for me, just let me know.
